I'd rather that you do it this way (instead of copying the GIF file to your
own server) for two reasons:

If I decide to change the banner, you won't have to update it
yourself, and

If the banner takes forever to load, then my site is
unavailable. <sigh!>
OK, so maybe you don't have to have a banner to get linked. :-)
