The public high schools in Washington, DC have a kind of Junior ROTC, with one or more regiments assigned to each school. When I attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in the 1960s, Lt. Col. Frank Talley, US Army Ret., was the commandant. Col. Talley and Col. Hamilton, my 10th grade home-room teacher, were but two of the numerous people with whom I had to interact on a daily basis who had known my parents since before I was born.
